GLOBAL INVESTOR MEET – OUTCOME

The Global Investor Meet (GIM) held in the State during 18-19 January 2003 has been instrumental in attracting investments to the tune of Rs. 26,000 crores, an unprecedented massive offer in the investment history of the State.

The Projects for which MoUs have been signed during GIM cover the vital areas of infrastructure, industries and service sectors, the core competencies of the State. MoUs have been entered into for 96 projects, involving an estimated capital cost of Rs. 11,159.45 crores.

An Investment Promotion Board (IPB), a Committee of Secretaries headed by the Chief Secretary, has been constituted by the Government in February, 2003 for according preliminary clearances for projects. The formation of IPB was based on the urgency for sustaining the phenomenal momentum that GIM had generated in the State.

The status of the projects for which MoUs were signed under GIM was presented by the concerned Secretaries in the IPB meetings and the steps initiated towards development subsequent to the signing of MoUs were reviewed, on a case-to-case basis. The IPB reviews all the projects taken up under GIM on a continuous basis. Of the 96 MoUs signed during GIM, 40 projects amounting to Rs. 6846.45 crores have been recommended for in-principle clearance to the Cabinet, based on which Government have accorded clearance for the same.
